This delightful piece hails from the Victorian era, its sterling silver frame hallmarked London 1860 and paired with its original vivid cranberry glass inner. A graceful swing handle arcs over an intricately foliate pierced surround, its scrolling acanthus leaves and curling tendrils cut with the fine hand-craftsmanship characteristic of the period.

The pierced silverwork frames the rich ruby tone of the glass beautifully, allowing the cranberry hue to glow through the openwork design from every angle. Raised on four elegantly scrolling feet, each detailed with a small shell motif at the leg attachment, the basket combines stability with a light, graceful lift, while its solid construction reflects the enduring quality of Victorian silversmithing.

A charming find for collectors of antique silver, this basket would once have graced the table for serving sweets or bonbons. As with all vintage glass, the liner remains delicate and should be handled with care, though the piece survives as a beautifully preserved example of 19th‑century decorative silverware.
