Vintage 18ct Yellow Gold Gem-Set Sputnik Ring

This vintage 1960s cocktail ring belongs to the "Sputnik" style of jewellery, a design movement born directly from the Cold War space race after the Soviet Union's launch of the Sputnik 1 satellite in October 1957, which sparked a wave of jewellers translating that cosmic excitement into bold, orb-shaped, gem-studded designs. The dense cluster of individually bezel-set stones radiating outward in a domed sphere is the hallmark of the style, meant to visually echo a satellite's spherical body with antennae extending into space.
